We announce the publication of the first issue of the free monthly online “Migranti e Sviluppo” by the newsroom Sviluppo Felice and humanfirst.it
“Sviluppo felice” (‘happy development’) suggests an alternative view to the ‘happy de-growth’. For the supporters of de-growth, to overcome the crisis we should simply diminish consumption. On the contrary we need to detect the productive consumption, which increases wealth and preserves environment. Whilst the neo-liberal view of development relies on the increase in income inequality, unbridled deregulation, a huge increase of parasitic speculation. On the other hand also the traditional Keynesian development is unable to cope with the present crisis. It is based on the growth of any kind of demand. We need to select the needs we should encourage and the investments we should promote. We should avoid consumerism and repetitive goods, while increasing collective consumption, public goods, common goods. We also ought to reduce the gap between incomes, enlarge the non-profit economy, extend welfare to the unemployed, precarious workers, immigrants, the poor. We also should implement a new great “Marshall plan” for the poor countries. This crisis will not end unless we have a new idea of development.
The blog “Sviluppo felice” (‘happy development’) treats social, economic, cultural, institutional issues through short contributions which reflect on development. The approach is in the middle between every-day discussion and research. More detailed analyses (the Paper dello Sviluppo) are also welcome. The editorial staff warrants pluralism in the confrontation of views about development.
